5 Tips for a Healthy Self

Today, the Obama Administration launched the “Healthy Self” campaign, to help encourage healthy lifestyles and connect people to the coverage and care they need. Here at iCan we also feel that leading a healthy lifestyle is important and encourage others to make simple changes to help change your lives for the better.

Some tips to help get you into the workout groove:

  1. Take sweaty selfies.
    You’re used to snapping selfies when you’re looking your very best, but how about capturing the moments of greatness when your sweaty and exhausted and work your butt off? That’s the kind of flawless to really be proud of.  iCan would like to start promoting #heathyselfie to encourage you and those around you to live a healthy lifestyle!
  2. Give yourself a real reward.
    Instead of dragging yourself to the gym because it’s the “healthy thing to do” or because you want to “look good in that bathing suit,” get motivated by giving yourself something real to look forward to. Maybe it’s a new pair of hiking shoes or that bikini you’ll be wearing at the beach this summer. Help trick your brain into believing all that sweating was worth it by getting a tangible reward.
  3. Get out of your workout rut.
    Instead of going to the same gym day in and day out, break the boredom and try other activities.  Visit a CrossFit gym, sign up for hot yogo or a local soccer game. Get a group of friends and go for a hike and picnic (full of water and salads of course).
  4. Write it down.
    Write down how you feel after every workout and when you’re feeling low and unmotivated, take out your journal to help you recall the amazing feeling you have after every workout. Maybe even write which clothes fit again because of your fabulous efforts to become healthier.
  5. Surround yourself with motivation.
    Hang up motivational pictures or post it notes with quotes in areas you see every day. Either in your car, on your refrigerator, calendar, on the bathroom mirror, or as your alarm within your phone.  Then you’ll have a constant reminder to work hard for a healthy lifestyle.
